Update: Capilano Students’ Union lockout averted
In the case of the lockout imposed on the staff of the Capilano Students’ Union (CSU), the students’ union and its workers have come to a deal to avoid picket lines. Announced yesterday by the CSU, then confirmed today by the Canadian Union of Public Employees, the deal seems to resolve the key sticking points in earlier negotiations.
In a statement, CUPE’s Sarah Silvester, an employee of the CSU, had this to say, “We’re pleased that CSU came back to mediation and worked with us to reach an agreement. Our members were very concerned that students would not receive the help they needed if the lockout went ahead.”
Throughout the duration of the lockout scare, the Capilano Students’ Union never responded to requests for comment.
